Richard William Rother, "Swede," 80, of Hampton, died on Tuesday, December 24, 2013.
He served in the Army from 1954 to 1956, worked at Armour & Co. for 23 years then at Flint Hills for 14 years. He farmed with his dad and son, Tom, was active in the church and was Deputy Grand Knight and Grand Knight for the Vermillion Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed retirement during the winter months in AZ and TX until 2010 before deciding to stay in MN year round.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Joyce, and children, Tom (Laurie), Marvin (Marcia) and David (Dona Fisher); six grandchildren, one great grandson and other relatives and friends. He is also survived by siblings Jane Ludwig, Cannon Falls, Mary (Elmer) Hupf, Kranzburg SD, and Jim (Diane) Rother Hampton.
He was preceded in death by parents Ray and Helen, and sister Mildred.
Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 4, 2014 at St. Mathias Catholic Church, Hampton, with a gathering of family and friends starting at 9:30 a.m. at the church. Private interment will be at a later date in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to St. Mathias Church.
