Lorraine Otte

Lorraine Otte, 84, Northfield, died at her home on Wednesday, September 25, 2013, surrounded by her loved ones.

Lorraine Gertrude Otte was born on September 18, 1929 in Castle Rock Township, to Andrew and Frances (Hoffman) May. She graduated from Randolph High School at the age of 16. Lorraine was united in marriage to Dwain Otte on September 20, 1949, and they farmed near Randolph for 44 years.

Although she was a busy wife, mother, homemaker and member of St. Dominic's Catholic Church, she found time to express her creativity in ceramics with friends and neighbors, and served as the 1st Congressional District Secretary of the Minnesota NFO as well as the state president and chairwomen of the national nominating committee of the Soil and Water Conservation Auxiliary.

In 1994, Lorraine and Dwain sold the home farm and moved to Northfield, where she enjoyed doing hardanger, traveling and attending many family events. Lorraine will be remembered for her quick wit, hospitality and chocolate chip cookies. She lived for her family and was an inspiration to all.

Lorraine is survived by her husband, Dwain; her eight children, Laramie (Jay) Thompson of Missouri, Glen (Laurie) Otte of Randolph, Gary (Bonnie) Otte of White Rock, Tom (Pat) Otte of Randolph, Loralie (Kevin) Illa of New York, Don (Bev) Otte of Randolph, Andy (Cris) Otte of Randolph and Dan (Cheryl) Otte of Northfield; 28 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and with three more on the way, and her sister, "Lil" Lewis of Burnsville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and sisters: Matthias (Bertha) May, Veeronica (Nick) Lucking, MaryAnn (Harry) Fleming and Franklin "Bud" (Sharon) May.

The family would like to thank her favorite "four Irishmen": Dr. Hogan, Dr. Davin, Dr. O'Leary and Dr. Flynn as well as all the staff at Allina Clinic, Northfield Hospital, Abbott Hospital and Northfield Hospice for the wonderful care and compassion over the last six years. Julianna, Caroline, Lisa and Jeanne, we truly appreciate all of your loving care for Mom and Dad.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, September 28 at the Church of St. Dominic's in Northfield. Interment took place at the Hillcrest Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are by the Bierman Funeral Home in Northfield. Memorials are preferred to Hillcrest Cemetery or the Northfield Hospice.
