Ulla Maija Ahtaja, 67, died unexpectedly at home on June 5,2013.
She was born October 31, 1945 in Stockholm, Sweden to Aulis and Paula Ahtaja. She grew up traveling the world, living in many different countries as a daughter of a Finnish diplomat. She raised her children in Finland and then settled in Cannon Falls.
Ulla was a woman of many, amazing talents. She was not one to take the beaten path but created her own unique path. She loved gardening, going to garage sales, cooking, reading and her pets Barkley, Brutus and Wanda. She will be remembered as a great friend, volunteer, arts and crafts instructor, avid Icon painter, baker and mustard maker.
Surviving are her four children Victoria Bauch (Michael), Andrew Marino, Kalle Mantere and Mikko Mantere (Marjo); three siblings Riitta Ahtaja, Kaisa Ahtaja and Ilkka Ahtaja; five grandchildren Andrew Bauch, Joe and Marcus, Matias and Mikael Mantere; and two great grandchildren Gabriel and Elijah Bauch.
A celebration of Ulla's life will be held at the Lutheran Center of Vasa Lutheran Church on July 14 at 2 p.m.. www.vasalutheran.org
