The Cannon Falls VFW baseball team is riding a win streak as it gets ready for the division tournament, having won its last three regular season games.
The streak started Tuesday, July 8, with an 11-2 win over Janesville.
Cannon had six hits, but drew eight walks. Coach Bucky Lindow credits great baserunning as a key to the win.
Starter Michael Monson went 5-1/3 inning and was credited with the win. He struck out 11. Jason Traynor pitched the final 1-2/3 innings.
Liam Franken and Carlton Lindow were both 2-3, and Monson and Elliot Boman had one hit each. Franken had two triples, and Boman and Lindow had doubles.
Tanner Carlson went the distance Wednesday in a 9-4 win over Winona. He struck out seven and scattered six hits.
CF scored five runs in the bottom of the 4th, with two coming on suicide-squeeze bunts. Jake Christenson bunted with the bases loaded, and as Andrew Egge was attempting to score the throw home bounced off his helmet and went to the fence, allowing Boman to also score. Liam Franken advanced to 3rd, and Christenson to 2nd. Carlson then bunted, and Franken scored; the throw to 1st base was wild, allowing Christenson to score.
Lindow and Egge both had two hits, and Franken, Christenson, Monson and Boman each had one.
Cannon finished the regular season with a wild 15-12 win at Stewartville on Saturday.
CF threw five pitchers: Monson, Casey Welsch, Egge, Traynor and Lindow. Traynor got the win and Lindow the save.
Christenson led with three hits, Carlson, Lindow and Traynor had two each, and Franken and Monson one apiece. Lindow and Christenson had doubles.
Cannon Falls finished the season with a 6-7 record. They start the division tournament this weekend, with the site yet to be determined. They need to win the tournament to advance to the district tournament.
