Years of hard work culminated in a much-earned spot in the class A state dance tournament for the Randolph High School Rockettes, who placed second at the section meet Saturday and gained their first-ever state spot.
"Saturday was very emotional for the entire team," said coach Melissa Augustine. "When the coaches and captains went out for the National Anthem, we were already in tears seeing how many fans had come to support us.
"We performed almost immediately after the Anthem and walked out to chants of 'R-D-T!'" she continued. "We had several other teams come up to us and rave about how many fans had come to support us, and we wanted to thank everyone who came out on Saturday.
"Since we performed first, we had about five hours to wait for awards," Augustine said. "During that time we were on a roller coaster of emotions; then we had a 20-minute wait when we were lining up to walk out for awards. The kick awards were announced first, and we were so excited when our name was called for second place! We were all crying the entire time and couldn't wait to celebrate as a team.
"We have had an amazing season, and have reached our team goal, which was to make it to state," she continued. "We have a week of hard work ahead of us, and can't wait to hit the floor at Target Center on Saturday!"
The Rockettes perform at 11:38 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14.
