The Cannon Falls High School high kick team earned its ninth consecutive HVL conference championship Friday, with the jazz team taking third.
It was the first time since the Apple Valley competition that the entire team took the floor, with all back after some battled illness and injury. Cannon's scores looked good, beating 2nd place Kasson-Mantorville by 63 points. Lake City was 3rd, 103 points behind the victors.
"The girls had a great performance, minus a few mistakes," coach Madi Salisbury said. "But it doesn't have to be perfect until sections! Despite the big win we have some work to do before sections if we want to earn a trip to state. We'll be focusing on kick technique every chance we get."
CF had four make all-conference, and four were honorable mention. Seniors Kelsie Beissel, Krystin Anderson and Sheyenne Bauer, along with Brooke Stein, received AC honors, and Liz Freeberg, McKenna Bauer, Maddie Moskal and Ali Hansen were honorable mention.
The jazz team took the floor for only the third time this season, and placed third overall. "The girls are constantly getting better at this routine," Salisbury said. "They love dancing it and it shows on the score sheet. We were awarded the highest score in Routine Effectiveness."
Anderson and Beissel received all-conference honors, and Sheyenne Bauer was honorable mention.
The varsity team will host its annual mini-meet on Thursday night, 7 p.m., at the Cannon Falls High School gym. The section tournament is Saturday, Feb. 8, in Austin.
