by Mike Dalton
The RHS football team found out Saturday that Mountain Lake is deserving of its #3 state ranking, after being blown out 79-6. The only Rocket score came on a 21-yard interception return for a touchdown by Hunter Ehlers.
Mountain Lake has averaged 72 points a game this season. "They are physical and fast, and have an excellent shot at winning the state title," Randolph coach Chris Stanton said. "We just couldn't get anything started."
Stanton noted some great efforts by Sam Feidt, Luke Dubbels, Ehlers, Micheal Landsberger, Zach Sirinek, Drake Speight, David Speight, and Hunter Sande, a freshman who started his first varsity game.
"I saw those guys step up and play physical; they proved to us coaches how tough they can be. They kept getting up play after play even when getting knocked down. I was proud of their determination to keep playing hard no matter the score or circumstance. These are guys we need to lead us into the final two regular season games against teams we believe we can compete with."
Offensively, RHS mustered only 109 yards rushing and 48 yards passing. Dubbels completed seven passes, three to Feidt and two each to Austin Moorhouse and Drake Speight. Dubbels had 43 yards rushing, Justin Waldvogel 27 and Connor McElroy 24.
Moorhouse led the team in tackles with eight, Landsberger had five and Ehlers and Nick Bergstrom four each. Ehlers had the interception.
The Rockets host Cleveland Friday night, in a 7 p.m. contest.
