The CFHS Bomber football team suffered a heartbreaking loss Friday night at Plainview, 21-20 in overtime.
Cannon got on the board first, with Hunter Johnson scoring on a 29-yard run late in the 1st quarter. The PAT was no good.
Plainview took the lead midway through the 2nd quarter, on a 2-yard run. The extra point kick was good.
It took the Bombers only a few minutes to retake the lead. Johnson scored the second of his three touchdowns, plowing in from four yards out. He hit Jordan Lundell on a 2-point converstion, and the score was 14-7 at the half.
Plainview scored again in the 3rd quarter, tying the score at 14-14. It stayed that way until the overtime period, when Johnson scored again, this time from 10-yards out. The crucial PAT was no good. Plainview scored on their overtime possession, making the extra point kick to win by one.
"Both sides played their hearts out, and it didn't work out in our favor," Bomber coach Josh Hofstedt said.
Johnson rushed for 62 yards and scored three touchdowns. Ryan Castillo had 61 rushing yards, Clay Broze 14. Johnson completed eight passes for 107 yards, three each to Lundell and Alex Bultena and one to Brock Peterson.
Nate Melhouse had 11 tackles, Sterling Carlson 10 tackles and a sack, Ryan Castillo nine tackles, Broze eight tackles and Taylor Carlson six.
Cannon Falls is host to Stewartville on Friday, in the school's annual Homecoming game. Start time is 7 p.m.
