The CFHS tennis team picked up two nice HVL wins last week, beating Lake City 5-2 on Tuesday and Stewartville 5-2 on Thursday.
Singles players had a clean sweep against LC, with Tayler Banitt, Maddie Adel, McKenna Bauer and Grace Rutter all winning in two sets. Molly Rolfes and Bethany Nelson won in three sets in doubles play.
Adel and Rutter won singles matches against Stewartville, and this time it was doubles going undefeated. Winning were Kaesey Glaess and Hannah Boman, Sheyenne Bauer and Sarah Modrak, and Rolfes and Nelson.
"Our singles player were pretty comfortable against Lake City," coach Paul Norstad said, "and they really set the tone. Molly and Bethany picked up a nice win on the road.
"Maddie picked up a big win at #2 singles against Stewartville. Both wins were against section opponents, so it was nice to pull them out."
The Bombers were able to pick up one win Saturday at the tough John Marshall tournament.
CF opened with Owatonna, losing 6-1. Rolfes and Nelson at #3 double won 6-2, 6-1.
"A tough first draw," Norstad noted. "Owatonna is ranked #10 in class AA, and they won the tournament."
There were many close games in Cannon's 4-3 loss to Red Wing in round two, with Adel, Sheyenne Bauer and McKenna Bauer winning singles matches.
"We just couldn't find that fourth point," said Norstad. "All the matches were close; beating Red Wing would have been nice. One point can really make a difference."
The win came in round three against LaCrosse Aquinas, 4-3. Adel, Sheyenne Bauer, Glaess/Boman, and Rolfes/Nelson won matches.
"It was really closer than it should have been," Norstad said. "It was nice to pick up at least one win on the day. We're going to have to play better going forward at several spots."
Cannon hosted Trinity on Tuesday. They host Lourdes on Thursday, then go to Cotter on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
