The Cannon Falls VFW baseball team picked up a key league win Saturday, beating Owatonna 6-5.
Quinton Lindow battled through five innings to get the win, giving up five runs, one earned. He struck out six. Michael Monson got a save with two scoreless innings of relief, after coming in with runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs in the sixth.
Monson had to work in the 7th. An Owatonna runner reached on an error, and a sacrifice bunt turned into a single, putting runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Catcher Garrett Beach picked the runner off 2nd, and two ground ball outs to shortstop Carter Dombeck ended the game.
Beach had two of Cannon's six hits. Jonathan Sharot, Dombeck, Jason Traynor and Tanner Carlson had one each.
Owatonna got revenge in the second, non-league game, winning 10-1.
Cannon took an early 1-0 lead, but Owatonna scored seven runs in the second inning to blow the game open.
Lindow, Dombeck and Nathan Melhouse had the only hits. John Haugen, Braden Hartl and Jake Christenson shared pitching duties.
Cannon lost a league game to the Rochester Spartans on Wednesday, June 26, 10-1. Errors played a huge role, as eight of the 10 runs were unearned.
Dombeck started and took the loss, and Lindow pitched in relief. Cannon's 3-6 hitters provided all the offense, with Sharot and Beach getting two hits each, and Melhouse and Dombeck one apiece.
Cannon has four home games remaining before the division tournament. They host Stewartville Wednesday, July 3, Kasson-Mantorville Saturday, the Rochester Knights Tuesday, and Rochester Century on Wednesday, July 10. The division tournament is Saturday, July 20.
