The Cannon Falls VFW baseball team split four games last week, winning two and losing two.
Carter Dombeck threw a 2-hitter against Northfield Tuesday, June 18, and won 1-0. He struck out six.
Cannon's lone run came in the bottom of the 7th. Jason Traynor drew a leadoff walk and moved to 2nd on a wild pitch. He advanced to 3rd on a ground ball, and scored from there when Jacob Christenson beat out an infield single.
CF managed only two hits, by Tanner Carlson and Christenson.
The locals had an easier time against Winona Wednesday, banging out 11 hits in a 6-0 win.
Quinton Lindow, Michael Monson and Traynor had two hits each, and Carlson, Dombeck, Garrett Beach, John Haugen and Nick Lorentz had one each. Traynor and Beach each had doubles.
Lindow was the winning pitcher, going seven innings and giving up four hits. He struck out nine.
Cannon went to Austin for two games on Friday, losing both.
The league game ended with Austin winning 10-0, with the host team scoring eight runs in the first two innings.
Traynor started and was saddled with the loss. Braden Hartl pitched in relief. Dombeck and Carlson had the only hits.
Hartl, Christenson, Jonathan Sharot and Monson saw pitching duties in the non-league game, a 14-3 loss.
Carlson, Dombeck, Beach and Monson had the only hits, all singles.
The squad is now 7-5 overall, and 5-3 in the league. They are at Owatonna Saturday, June 29, then return home to host Stewartville on Wednesday, July 3, at 5 p.m.
