The Cannon Falls VFW baseball team beat Waseca twice Saturday, winning 4-3 in a league game and 6-1 in a non-league game.
Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the 6th, Quinton Lindow walked, Jonathan Sharot singled and Carter Dombeck walked to load the bases. Nathan Melhouse beat out an infield chopper to score one run, and a fielder's choice tied the game.
The game was won in the bottom of the 7th. Tanner Carlson reached on an error, and moved to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt. Lindow singled and stole 2nd, putting runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out. Sharot pounded a fly ball over the left fielder's head to end the game.
Lindow was the winning pitcher. He struck out four and gave up five hits in five innings. Sharot and Carlson each had two hits, and Melhouse, Garrett Beach and Lindow had one each.
A 3-run 4th helped pave the way to a win in the second game.
Dombeck, John Haugen, Jason Traynor, Braden Hartl and Carlson shared pitching duties. Lindow, Dombeck and Michael Monson had two hits each, and Sharot had one.
"It was a good day of baseball," commented coach Bucky Lindow. "The pitchers did a nice job. It took awhile for our bats to get going in game one."
The team has a 2-1 overall record, and they are 1-1 in league. They host the Rochester Rockets on Wednesday, then go to Faribault Saturday and Albert Lea on Sunday, June 16.
