The Cannon Falls Bears amateur baseball team opened its 2013 season with a 10-6 win over Belle Plaine.
Jared Woodward, Andy Otto, Aaron Stein and Tyler Quinlan shared pitching duties, with Otto getting the win.
Nate Otto and Jamie Stay had two hits each, and Luke Winchell and Braxton Lindow had one hit apiece. Nate Otto had a double.
Cannon jumped right into their league schedule Sunday, losing 5-2 to the Red Wing Aces.
Cory Hedeen took the loss, going three innings and striking out four. He gave up two runs, both unearned. Winchell and Keith Meyers followed in relief.
Meyers had three hits, Nate Otto and Brandon Voth had two each, and Josh Harrison had one. Otto had a double.
"We left a lot of base runners on, just couldn't get a timely hit," manager Meyers said. "We also had a couple of defensive miscues that cost us. Our pitching was good overall."
The 1-1 Bears are off until Wednesday, May 22, when they host Bay City. A game set for Wednesday, May 15, against River Falls was canceled, and a game scheduled for Sunday, May 19 against Dundas has been moved to Wednesday, June 26, at 7:30 p.m.
