The CFHS boys basketball team opened sub-section play Monday night with a hard-fought win over Kenyon-Wanamingo, 37-34, after trailing 13-5 in the early going.
Junior Alex Bultena finished with 11 points, and all of those came in the tight 1st half. The game was tied 21-21 at the half.
Good perimeter defense by K-W kept the Bomber sharpshooters in check, but opened up the inside where senior Tanner Jackson had a couple of key baskets.
Jordan Lundell and Jackson each finished with seven points, Paul Rolfes had four, Brock Peterson and Austin Noble three each, and Noah Callister two. Callister had 10 rebounds, Jackson nine, and Lundell had three assists.
Cannon Falls, the #3 seed, faces #2 seed Waterville-Elysian-Morristown at 8 p.m. on Thursday night at New Prague High School. #1 seed St. Peter and #4 seed Belle Plaine also play that night, and the two winners will square off for the sub-section title on Monday, March 11, at Minnesota State University-Mankato at 8 p.m.
