The RHS boys basketball team lost a 4-overtime thriller at Cleveland last week, 74-73.
The first half was a see-saw battle, with the Rockets patient on offense and aggressive on defense. They trailed 34-30 at the half.
It was much the same in the second half, and RHS had a chance to win at the end of regulation. In the fourth overtime, with the Rockets leading by two, Cleveland hit a 3-pointer to go ahead by a point with 13 seconds to go. Randolph had the ball at the end but didn't get a shot off.
"It was a shame we lost; that was one of the best played games I've seen by the Rockets all year. I'm proud of our players' effort," coach Tony Linbo said.
Ryan Hoey had one point, Jake Dubbels 28, Alex McKay 12, Drew Weidner eight, Trevor Otte four, Austin Moorhouse two, Chris Feidt 14 and Kyle Volkert five.
The Rockets made up a postponed game with Blooming Prairie Monday night, and honored six seniors prior to the game. Unfortunately, those six went out on a disappointing note, following the 76-66 loss.
Seniors are Jake Dubbels, Trevor Otte, Alex McKay, Ryan Hoey, Chris Feidt and Keagan Nitz. "These young men have given a lot to our program, and have helped move the Rockets in the right direction," Linbo said. "They will be missed on and off the court, and I thank them for their dedication.
Dubbels had 11 points, McKay 16, Nitz six, Weidner 11, Otte seven, Moorhouse seven, Feidt five and Volkert three.
Randolph received the #7 seed in the sub-section, and open playoffs on Thursday, Feb. 28, at Faribault BA. The winner of that game faces either #3 Goodhue or #6 Bethany Academy on Tuesday, March 5, at 7:30 p.m. at the Mayo Civic Auditorium in Rochester.
