The RHS dance team had its season cut a bit short at the section competition at Dover-Eyota, where they placed 5th and missed out on a spot in the state tournament.
"At our first competition at Zumbrota-Mazeppa we took first place," coach Melissa Augustine said. "We felt like that was the best start to a season we could ask for, and we felt very strong against our competition.
"At our competition at Henry-Sibley, against all AA teams, we took 3rd place. This gave us a big boost to our confidence after placing 6th at our Lake City Competition a couple weeks before.
"Unfortunately, we had to cancel our Rochester Century Competition due to illnesses on our team (we had over half of our team out with bronchitis, pneumonia, influenza, or stomach flu), but that actually led us to be stronger and come back even more determined for our last competition of the season," continued Augustine.
"We felt like we had a lot to prove at our last competition at Dover-Eyota. Last season we took 7th place, and that really hit us hard. We worked really hard the two weeks before Dover, and it really showed when we took 2nd place against some tough competiton."
The girls continued to work leading up to the section meet, Augustine said. "I told the girls that this was our last chance to impress the judges, and that we had to have no regrets. That was our motto for the day: no regrets. We had to do everything that we had been working so hard on for the last four months. We took 5th place again this season at Sections, which we are proud of but we were definitely hoping to make it to the State Competition. It was an especially hard day for our Seniors who had been on the team since Junior High, but they kept it together and were amazing role models to our younger team members.
"Overall, the Randolph Rockettes had an amazing season," she said. "Our seniors will truly be missed, but they paved the way for our younger team members. We also had an amazing year with our JV team which was just added this season. They placed at four out of five competitions they competed at this season, and we have high hopes that our program will really grow with the addition of the JV team."
