The RHS boys basketball team played the top two teams in the Gopher Conference in recent weeks, and lost both games.
Randolph hosted United South Central on Tuesday, Jan. 29, and lost 56-27. Alex McKay had five points, Luke Dubbels four, Austin Moorhouse 13 and Chris Feidt five.
Friday of that week found the Rockets at Faribault BA, and behind 44-19 at the half. "They're a good team," coach Tony Linbo commented. "When we turn the ball over and they convert it gets lopsided pretty quick." The final score was 71-43.
Ryan Hoey had nine points, Jake Dubbels seven, McKay five, Drew Weidner two, Moorhouse 10 and Feidt 10.
A game with Janesville on Tuesday, Feb. 5, was much tighter, but after trailing by three at the half the Rockets fell 55-52.
"Janesville likes to press, so we knew we needed to slow them down," Linbo said. "Our guys did a great job of breaking their press and making them work on the defensive end."
RHS had only one free throw attempt and no 3-pointers in the 1st half. "The difference in the game was they hit more 3-pointers than us and we missed some great opportunities," said Linbo.
Jake Dubbels had 17 points, McKay two, Weidner eight, Moorhouse 10, Feidt 11 and Kyle Volkert four.
The busy two week stretch ended with a 77-59 loss to New Richland.
The game was tied late in the 1st half when New Richland made a three at the buzzer to take the lead. The second half was all New Richland, Linbo said.
Senior post player Jake Dubbels had a strong night, scoring 16 points in the 1st half and 24 overall. Hoey had two, McKay seven, Keagan Nitz two, Trevor Otte three, Moorhouse six, Feidt eight and Volkert seven.
"We're not done, and are still excited for the four opportunities we have left," Linbo said. "In playoffs anything can happen."
The Rockets hosted Medford Tuesday. They go to Waterville on Friday and Cleveland Tuesday, then finish the regular season by hosting Blooming Prairie on Friday, Feb. 22.
