A large crowd and two division rivals squaring off made for a playoff-like atmosphere at the Cannon Falls gym Friday night, and those in attendance went home happy after the Bombers downed the visiting Lake City Tigers 58-47.
Cannon has played well against quality opponents this season, but has had trouble closing out games. That changed Friday, when the Bombers opened up a 23-20 halftime lead en route to the win.
"We were able to finish off the game against a very solid Lake City team," Bomber coach Josh Davisson said. "This was a huge win, both within the division as well as in terms of confidence-building. We've both got one loss now in the division."
Jordan Lundell led Cannon with 20 points, and Paul Rolfes added 11 and Noah Callister nine. Callister had 13 rebounds, and Rolfes had seven rebounds and five steals.
The Bombers had an easier time Tuesday against Triton, winning 56-29.
Ten of 14 players scored. "Everyone has been working their tails off in practice to make us a better team, and it was good to reward that effort with playing time," Davisson said.
Callister had 11 points, Lundell nine, Tanner Jackson eight, Brock Peterson seven, Colton Sande and Austin Noble five each, Rolfes four, Hunter Johnson three and Peter Haggerty two. Callister had eight rebounds.
The Bombers are 8-7 overall, but 5-1 in the HVL blue division. They hosted Zumbrota-Mazeppa Tuesday, go to Pine Island Friday, and entertain Prescott on Monday, Jan. 28.
