The CFHS football team found out Saturday that St. Croix Lutheran really is deserving of its top seed in the section, after the Crusaders ran all over the Bombers in a 61-21 win for the section title.
Cannon Falls was limited to 130 yards on the ground and 101 yard through the air. Junior Hunter Johnson was the leading rusher, gaining 96 yards on 12 carries. Alex Bultena added 22 yards on three carries.
Johnson was five of 11 passing with one touchdown and one interception. Bultena caught two passes for 65 yards and a touchdown, senior Colton Sande caught two passes for 20 yards, and Jordan Lundell caught one for 16 yards.
Sterling Carlson led the defense with nine tackles. Ryan Castillo had eight, Nate Melhouse seven, Taylor Carlson four with a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown, Andrew Anderson four, and Clay Broze four with a sack.
"It's always disappointing to lose, but our boys had a great season," coach Josh Hofstedt said. "They worked so hard to get better as a team, and they did. I'm very proud of them."
Cannon Falls finished the season with a 7-3 record, and they won two section playoff games. The 2012 squad was only the second in school history to reach the section title game.
