■ Brewsters is sure looking good these days. What an asset to downtown. The mural of the motorcycles on Limekiln Hill is scheduled to be painted on the south wall in July. Being an avid motorcyclist, I can hardly wait. - Cal F.
■ We've kind of dodged the bullet so far on all the rain this summer. One has to mow the lawn a lot, but one doesn't have to water the garden. - Cal F.
■ The Cannon Valley Fair is just around the corner. The new attractions, joining all those returning to the Fair, promise to make this year's fair the best ever. Then on Independence Day (July 4) a fabulous parade is scheduled to wend its way from the high school to the fairgrounds in Grande Day fashion, with local commentator Pat Dougherty near the Winery to identify the entries as they pass by. Lots to do next week! Next year marks 100 years of the CV Fair. Cannon Falls is just amazing. - Sue S.
■ The graduation ceremonies are over. They went wonderfully in both Cannon and Randolph. Time to move on for all the grads. One thing I will miss in my neighborhood of Woodland Heights. And that is the sound of the basketball bouncing in the backyard court of Jordan Lundell. It was a pleasant sound for many years. He promises to keep bouncing the ball when he is home from college. One game I don't want to miss is when Jordan, at St. Thomas, and Hunter Johnson, at Gustavus, face each other in football! - Dick D.
■ When MnDOT gets through with road construction in our area, I hope they don't forget to resurface Hwy. 52. The stretch in Cannon, from the stoplights on the south and north to city limits, is the roughest part of Hwy. 52 between Rochester and the Twin Cities. - Dick D.
■ We had the opportunity to visit the Gettysburg Battlefield on our recent trip east. Places like Little Round Top, Devil's Den and Culp's Hill take on new meaning when you stand there and picture the thousands of men charging into the guns and artillery. We walked along Cemetery Ridge where more than eighty percent of the First Minnesota regiment died and Col. Colvill became a hero. The whole battlefield park is impressive, but the monuments to the First Minnesota touched my heart the most. If you are ever in the Gettysburg, PA area, it's definitely worth devoting some time to visit and learn more about those days, July 1-3, 1863, that turned the tide of the Civil War in favor of the Union. - Betsy F.
■ I know most of the members of the fair board and am aware of the many hours they put in. Some say that it is a thankless job, but I'd like to extend my "thanks" to each and every one of you who work hour after hour to beautify our fairgrounds and bring Cannon Falls the best fair possible. Hats off to you, I appreciate all of your hard work. - Mel R.
