■ Spring is here - the turkey vultures are back-Cal F.
■ The deer have been out grazing in the corn and bean stubble, so keep an eye out for them in your travels.-Cal F.
■ Lake Saratoga sprang to life Monday afternoon! The retention pond on County Road 24 just west of the Saratoga Inn clogged or backed up, and after filling up, spilled water over the road. I'm assuming that wasn't supposed to happen. I wonder, will there be guardrails installed to keep cars out of that pond, if it's inclined to fill to the brim? It seems there were a few deaths in the Metro area this winter from cars ending up on frozen or filled retention ponds; I'd hate for that to happen here.-Mike D.
■ Can you feel it? Can you smell it? Spring is in the air, and you know what that means....Garage Sale Season is soon here. The Spring City Wide Garage Sale is scheduled for the FIRST WEEKEND IN MAY. We are trying something new this year. Instead of the sale being a one day event, we encourage sale participants to pick their day(s). The deadline is Friday, April 18 to be on the map for the big weekend. A separate story is in this week's Beacon, so look there for details. Now folks can shop for many days, not just one. So, clean that garage, go through your closets and let's go shopping!-Val H.
■ Spring cleaning at our house is well underway, now if only "spring" would arrive! Once we can put away our snow boots and bulky coats for the season, the closet and entry will look bigger for sure. As much of a pain as it is looking at all the clutter, once the purge process begins, I kind of get into it. I even painted and put together a bird house wind chime kit that has been in my craft room for a couple of years. Well, that's one thing. - Sue S.
■ That brings me to mice. I thought they were only supposed to come in during the fall. Someone missed that memo! One even invaded my sewing room. Cinderella I'm not and I refuse to make little jackets for them either! - Sue S.
■ I sure was sorry to see the city cutting down trees in the downtown area. They added a very tranquil look to the cement and blacktop of the business streets. Could they have been trimmed instead of cut down? I don't know, but one thing is certain. They need to be replaced with some type of trees. Smaller, for sure. Let's start planning right now for replacement. - Dick D.
■ Spring sports are delayed quite a bit this year. Too bad, since the season is so short during a good year. Games have been canceled already. Be sure to read next week's Beacon - we'll include a spring sports preview for both Randolph and Cannnon Falls. - Dick D.
