What a fantastic day Saturday was! The weather was beautiful, and that made for a great turn-out for the annual Deck the Falls celebration. Remember how cold it was last year? We were actually able to go outside to watch this year.
We had photographers Ken Haggerty and Heidi Zimmerman out-and-about, and they really captured some fantastic shots, as you'll see in this week's Beacon - so many it was hard to choose the best ones! The Beacon is lucky to have such great picture-takers working for us.
Deck the Falls means Christmas is creeping up on us, and we've now turned our attention here to our annual Christmas greeting issue, which will come out on Dec. 19. We've got a pretty good story list going, but could always use more. If you've got an idea you think our readers might like, drop me a line (263-3991, email@example.com) and we'll assign one of our ace reporters.
Good write-up by Ken Haggerty on the Monday afternoon meeting regarding exits off Hwy. 52, attended by Sen. Schmit and Rep. Kelly. Am I wrong, or does it seem like MnDOT really has it in for Cannon Falls? First we get the shaft when it comes to our much-needed overpass (bridge to nowhere, anyone?). Now our south-side businesses might suffer because of diminished access from Hwy. 52 - despite the same type of exits eight miles up the road in Hampton. All that's added to the definite possibility of MnDOT reneging on their promise of an overpass at the north stop lights.
I haven't written much this fall about my fantasy football team, despite non-stop clamoring for updates. There's a pretty good reason for that; my team's lousy. Of course, I have the excuse that I didn't draft my own team this year (my surrogate shall remain anonymous), but the moves I did make weren't very good.
After placing second in my league last year, I won't even make the playoffs this year; in fact, I should have the #1 or #2 pick in next year's draft (I'm leaning toward Christian Ponder as my first pick).
I hope everyone has a great Christmas; I know I will. And again, if you've got anything you think would be good for our Christmas issue, please don't hesitate to let me or one of our staff members know.
