I was very disappointed the announcement of the Jade Buddha of Universal Peace was not printed in the Beacon until after the event. I saw this as a great cultural event that many here may have enjoyed visiting.
For those who missed the visit, I'd like to fill you in on its stop in Hampton:
The Jade Buddha for Universal Peace was from a gemstone quality jade originally weighing over 18 ton. It was carved by Ian Green, a polar jade from northern Canada and modeled after one in Bodh Gaya, India.
The tour of the Jade Buddha began in 2009 in Danang Vietnam, onto Europe, Asia, Australia and the U.S. After it left Hampton it was on to Lincoln, Nebraska, then to its final home in Victoria, Australia.
My friend and I were so fortunate to visit the Jade Buddha, tour the temple, see the monks, and the youth in their performances.
