If a person looks at the history of our initial pioneering settlers and at the time of the founders of the government, it is patently obvious that the Judeo-Christian faith and quite simply God played a major part in those times. It is also evident that the Pilgrims and Puritans entered into a covenant with God for the purpose that this new country would glorify God. Do not confuse the Pilgrim and Puritan settlements with the likes of Jamestown. The contrast between them are stark.
The Pilgrim and Puritan settlements were spiritual ventures for God's glory, the Jamestown type ventures were about business, profit and self gain. The implications of that in our history are many but a key one is the principle that God honors those who honor him.
The Pilgrim and Puritan influence on our country's history and identity were great. Unfortunately we, as a country on the whole, have ceased to honor Him. The result is His blessings and divine providence is withdrawn or at the very least is being withdraw. It is withdrawn for a purpose... to get our attention, cause us to humble ourselves and pray, seek His face, turn from our sin... at which point His blessing and providence can be restored. This has got to start with the people of God.
