October marks the fifth anniversary of Minnesota's Freedom to Breathe Act. We can all celebrate five years of smoke-free air in all of our bars, restaurants and other workplaces. This landmark health legislation was passed with strong bi-partisan support and took effect on October 1, 2007.
The Freedom to Breathe Act has had a personal impact on everyone - here in Cannon Falls and throughout Minnesota. This is one law that has proven to be popular and effective. Minnesotans love the smoke-free air. According to one survey, 79 percent of Minnesotans support Freedom to Breathe and 86 percent believe smoke-free bars and restaurants are healthier for customers and employees. Our family, friends and neighbors who work in bars and restaurants no longer have to work in a smoke-filled environment.
To celebrate the fifth anniversary, we encourage everyone to go out to their favorite smoke-free bar or restaurant. Enjoy your visit and take a moment to reflect about what a positive change this has been for Minnesota. It's about health!
