11/14/2013 3:00:00 PM Council works on 2014 budget November 19
by Ken Haggerty
The Cannon Falls city council will meet in a work session to try and finalize the 2014 city budget after the regularly scheduled Tuesday, November 19 council meeting. The regular meeting is set for a 6:30 p.m. start.
City Administrator Aaron Reeves said he should have the new health insurance costs by then and should be able to get a good estimate of upcoming utility costs. Having an almost full year's worth of actual numbers from the 2013 budget will help in finalizing plans for 2014 as well, said Reeves.
Sewer and water bills
The Council, as it does quarterly, approved assessing $17,141 of overdue sewer and water bills to owners' property tax statements. There were 55 accounts with overdue bills. Only one account was for more than $1,000 and only five others over $500.
The Council also approved assessments for five property clean-ups that the city took on after notice of violations.
New CFPD hire
Shane Mikkelson is the CFPD's new part-time Officer hire. He is expected to complete training by the end of December. The CFPD is in the process of hiring another part-time Officer as well. Former part-time Officer Josh Colvard moved to full-time after CFPD Officer Mike Ayres took a job with the Goodhue County Sheriff's Office.
Peace Pole, Trot, Trost
The Peace Pole will be located in front of the footbridge that is downstream from the swan pond...The CFPD expanded crosswalk coverage for this year's Trick or Treat Trot and will probably add more coverage next year as the event spreads out and gains popularity...Mayor Robinson offered congratulations to Emi Trost, cross country State champ.
