by Ken Haggerty
Cannon Falls Township officials will meet with Goodhue County to discuss the impact of the MnDOT bridge, interchange and frontage roads project planned for Hwy. 52 on the south end of Cannon Falls and scheduled to start construction in the Spring of 2013.
The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 28, at the Cannon Falls City Hall. Stanton Township officials have also been invited.
The County is planning some new roads that will tie into the interchange. The County will look to abandon part of the existing Goodhue County 24 from the Saratoga to where its new road will it be built (around 323rd St.). Cannon Falls and Stanton Township will be asked to assume maintenance of the part the County gives up.
Cannon Falls Township will also be asked to assume maintenance for some of the new frontage roads being built.
Swanson shed approved
Cannon Falls Township supervisors approved a permit for a 54 foot by 92 foot shed for Robert Swanson at its November 14 meeting. The property is located in Section 16 of the Township near Hwy. 19.
The Board approved a maintenance agreement with Leon Township for 340th Street Way, which borders the two Townships. $1,800 of culvert work was approved.
280th Street Culvert
Work to improve a culvert on 280th Street east of Hwy. 20 that was an area of a washout during the mid-June flooding will be done in the Spring. Supervisor Ray Otto will check with Mark Grosland, nearby property owner, on how the new culvert design might impact drainage onto his property. Supervisor Mark Nelson will try to identify and meet with the property owner of land near Highview Road where the Township cleaned out a culvert but would like to clear a sandpile to allow the culvert to drain more freely.
A transfer from savings to checking will be necessary to cover all of the flood cleanup bills. FEMA money will reimburse the bills later. The Township had a total balance of $308,687. Property tax payments come in December.
