7/31/2014 10:39:00 AM 52 work still on track to open August 18
Good weather means construction on the south Hwy. 52 interchange and frontage road project remains on track for an August 18 opening. That will also be when the north intersection and signal are closed.
Lane closures will remain in effect as crews will then commence with the resurfacing of Hwy. 52 through the new corridor. It's expected that work will take more than a month. The contract calls for an Oct. 1 completion date but work could be finished before then.
General motorist service signs will be in place for the ramp opening. These signs will identify nearby gas, food and lodging entities. Business owners along the corridor will be contacted about a program that will allow them to put logo signs in the area.
The crossover for Goodhue County 1 south of Cannon Falls will remain open. Turn lanes have been extended, and other crossovers should remain. The one in Cannon Falls at the north signal will also come out when that closes.
A study is currently underway by the city of Cannon Falls on the safety of right-in, right-out access near the north intersection. That study is not expected to be completed before all the 52 work is done. MnDOT will review the findings of the study, as will Cannon Falls officials.
