Members of the Fair Board met on the bumper cars for a little "fun" after the conclusion of the 99th Cannon Valley Fair. "The weather cooperated this year. It was fantastic and there were great crowds at all the events!" exclaimed Phyllis Althoff, CV Fair Secretary. "I have never seen so many people on the midway - the Fair was so well attended." The Fair Board was pleased.
Fireworks were cut a little short when fire broke out on the track and in the adjacent DNR field. In a collaborative effort with the Cannon Falls Fire Department and Fair Board members, the fires were put out quickly and with no damage. "There were more fireworks to set off but people just started leaving because they thought it was over, so it was," explained Phyllis.
"Minnow races were popular as usual, and there were 141 kids on Daycare Day. That's more than we've ever had," recalled Althoff.
The beautified gardens in the park with the canopy at the Fair came from the extra effort of Chicky Otte. "I heard many comments about how beautiful the gardens were," Althoff said. "Chicky just took that on as a project and it was wonderful."
Preparations are already underway to make next year's 100th anniversary Fair spectacular. Those with suggestions or who would like to help with the Centennial Fair may leave a message at the CV Fair office, 507-263-3548.
