Randolph's ninth annual Railroad Days celebration is set for Saturday and Sunday, March 29 and 30.
Just 20 minutes south of the Twin Cities or 45 minutes north of Rochester, festivities will be held at Randolph High School, railyards and museum. The school is located at 29110 Davisson Avenue, Randolph.
Hours are 9 a.m. -5 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.
This year there will be a performance by the Choo Choo Bob's show Engineer Paul. He will be performing at noon on Saturday for children and their families. There will be railroad singalongs, story times and photos with the kids.
The $24 million Interstate Mills grain facility in the all new Great Western Industrial Park, serviced by Progressive Rail, will be open for public tours from noon-4 p.m. on Saturday as well. (No tours on Sunday.)
In addition there will be several railroad slide shows on both days by local railroad experts.
Progressive Rail will be back with an engine, caboose and other railroad equipment for the public to inspect. They will also have a booth at the show in the school.
The Museum will again be open and free to the public with more Randolph roalroad items.
Because of the growth of the show, volunteers are needed to help with tasks such as admissions, concessions, directing patrons, etc. Lunch will be provided and the entire crew will be taken out for pizza at the show's conclusion. The train show at the school will include a swap meet, operating layouts and displays, collectibles, ATCS monitor (live, free public internet train monitoring), railroad books and magazines, antique toys and a concession stand.
Admission is $5 per day for adults and children 12 and under are free with a paid adult.
The Randolph Area Historical Society Museum is free and will display CGW signal lights and CGW artifacts. There will also be operating railroad crossing and lights, along with Chicago Great Western artifacts and history.
