The Cannon Falls Education Foundation has a goal to fund at least $62,167 in the 2013-14 school year, and possibly more depending on how annual fundraising efforts go.
The all-volunteer Foundation has already approved about $9,000 for innovative, creative programs not included in the normal school district budget for 2013-14. They are the Online Lantern ($600), a field trip to the Christmas Carol at the Guthrie ($1,269), Science, Technology and Math program for the Alternative Learning Center ($650), a field trip to wall climbing at Vertical Endeavors ($2,160), a field trip to a production of The Diary of Anne Frank ($1,000), and bringing in Aaron Thomas to speak ($500).
Last year, the Foundation funded $62,839 in programs including a MacBook Learning Lab ($33,419), the Vertical Endeavors trip ($1,640), the Gates Reading Program ($786), a document camera ($327), the Dakota 38 program ($1,000), a high tech study island with individualized web-based instruction for the elementary ($3,404), a donation to help pay for Eagle Bluff trip ($2,500), Smart Music ($140), Bodyworlds field trip ($708), The Lantern ($750), We the People trip to D.C. ($5,000), Fur Trade presentation ($400), Lego technology program ($640), digital cameras ($5,924), Amity Spanish teacher internship ($2,800), self-defense classes for 9th and 10th grade ($2,000) trip to BPA nationals ($400).
The Foundation allocates one third of all donations to its endowment, which is at $556,059 as of late September. No funds are drawn from the endowment to fund annual programs.
On Thursday, November 14, the Foundation is seeking donations through the Minnesota Give to the Max Day. Through an online donation at GiveMN.org, a bonus of $1,000 in hourly drawings may be donated to the Foundation. One school will receive a $10,000 donation. Cannon Falls "power hour" for targeting donations on that day is 5:00 to 5:59 p.m.
