The State Patrol reported two serious accidents within an hour of each other on Saturday, August 10 that had Cannon Falls Ambulance crews scrambling to the far north and far south of their coverage areas.
At 11:55 a.m., a rollover motorcycle accident was reported at Hwy. 50 in New Trier. According to the State Patrol incident report, Dustin Rahier, 39, Lakeville was eastbound on Hwy. 50 popping wheelies on his 2005 Kawasaki when slowing traffic in front of him caused him to brake hard and he rolled onto the right side. Injuries were classified as serious.
At 12:43 p.m., the dangerous Hwy. 52 and Goodhue County 9 intersection was the site of another crash.
According to the State Patrol report, John Czarnecki, 43, Dennison, was eastbound on Co. 9 in a 2011 Dodge Ram. Raymond Pierce, 61, Cedar Rapids, IA, was northbound in a 2011 Lincoln MKS. The two vehicles collided.
Pierce had non-life threatening injuries and his vehicle was severely damaged. A passenger, Ambryia Pierce, 10, Cedar Rapids, suffered severe injuries.
Czarnecki also sustained non-life threatening injuries.
The intersection is scheduled for construction of an overpass and ramps next year.
