7/26/2013 10:26:00 AM Track record at Fair harness races
Susan Schroeder, Minnesota Harness Racing, Inc. Executive Director, reports they had a great day of racing at the Cannon Valley Fairgrounds track on the 4th of July. "I think the fans liked the promotions that we did including the backpacks for the kids and the t-shirt tosses," said Schroeder.
About 60 horses raced in the twelve events. "Many trainers and drivers came from Running Aces to celebrate the 4th of July in Cannon," Schroeder said. Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and California racers were present.
Finn Jet and driver/trainer Rick Magee set a new track record of 1:57.2 in the last race of the day, the Free For All Pace. Finn Jet loves racing at the fairs and this 9-year-old gelding has made $110,000 in his racing career, according to Schroeder.
Local trainers who train at the Cannon Falls fairgrounds year round had some good finishes. Ulf Holm-Johansen started his 2-year-old trotting filly, Al-Mar Pizzazz, for the first time and finished 3rd, and his two-year-old pacing filly, The Wizsell of Odz, was 4th in her race. Goodhue's Jeff Ryan's three-year-old pacing colt, Itchy Brother, finished 2nd in his race in a very fast time of 2:00.2. Scott, Michael and James Banitt's Allamerican Redhot finished a strong third in the race that Finn Jet won in track record time.
Local Cannon Falls resident Ron Banks also sent two pacers to the post. Whata Smoothie finished 5th and Funny Guy was 4th.
