7/11/2013 10:55:00 AM CFPD seeks hosts for "Night Out"
Night to Unite/National Night Out (NNO) is Tuesday, August 6, 2013. The Cannon Falls Police Department is sponsoring Night to Unite/NNO and is looking for residents who would like to host a neighborhood event.
Each year communities in all 50 states participate in the crime and drug prevention event, billed as America's Night Out against Crime.
Night to Unite/NNO is designed to make residents more aware of crime and drug prevention issues, generate support for local anticrime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
Chief Jeff McCormick advises that people who get to know each other are more likely to report suspicious activity occurring in their neighborhood. The Police Department really appreciates having more eyes and ears watching out for their neighbors, he noted.
Hosts make a minimal commitment to open their yard, driveway or garage, etc. to their neighbors, but they may decide to host a potluck meal, or offer snacks, beverages and other activities. The neighborhood parties are typically held sometime between 5:30 pm and 8:30 pm, but hosts set the hours for their event.
Members of the Cannon Falls Police Department, as well as members of the Fire Department and Ambulance will visit each of the parties.
Anyone interested in being a host for a Night to Unite/NNO party, or wanting more information, can contact Karen at the Cannon Falls Police Department at 507-263- 9322.
This is the tenth year that the Cannon Falls Police have sponsored the event. Party hosts in previous years have had positive comments, Chief McCormick said, describing it as " a fun thing to do" and " a good way to get to know their neighbors."
