A "Girls Rock" day camp for girls going into second grade through those going into sixth grade will be held from Tuesday, July 30, until Friday, August 2, from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Hannah's Bend Park in Cannon Falls. The park is located across from the Cannon Valley Fairgrounds.
This "Survivor-themed" camp will teach young girls about knife safety, environment safety, and bike safety, and the girls will learn to use teamwork to accomplish given tasks.
This day camp is being hosted by 18-year-old Cassandra Dulek as her "Gold Award" project. The Gold Award is the highest award a Girl Scout can earn and is comparable to the Boy Scout Eagle Award.
Along with Dulek, eighth grade Girl Scout Samantha Hamann will be earning her Silver Award with the project, leading physical activities from biking to belly dancing, through a "Let's Get Movin' -Fight Obesity" program.
Dulek's fellow troop members will volunteer to help at the camp and any additional adult volunteers are welcome to join the staff.
"I will have many crafts and activities each day and a snack will be provided," explained Dulek, "but the girls will need to bring their own lunch."
A Girl Scout since kindergarten, Dulek graduated this year from Cannon Falls High School and will use the Gold Award project accomplishment to proudly kick off her college years at Augustana College this fall.
Registration forms are available at Merchants Bank and may be returned there with the $15 registration fee.
Contact Dulek at email@example.com or by phone at 507-263-4718, or cell at 507-254-7252, for more information or to register for the camp.
