The Hwy. 52/Dakota County Road 86 "intersection safety improvement" project in Randolph Township (just north of Cannon Falls) construction timeframe has been moved to Summer 2014, according to MnDOT. It had been slated for this year.
Design modifications were necessary due to the public comments received this past summer, according to the MnDOT engineer working on the plans. She said this resulted in MnDOT moving the construction start date to better align with staff availability. A new "Reduced Conflict Intersection" (RCI) is planned to replace the existing basic Hwy. 52/CR 86 intersection. MnDOT says RCI intersections have been proven to increase safety while maintaining all movements at an intersection. Crossing all four lanes of high-speed traffic can still be made, but requires the use of U-turn lanes located away from the existing intersection. Budget was set at $900,000 for this project.
MnDOT is proposing a similar design as a temporary solution of the 52/9 intersection. A meeting on that is scheduled for April 11 from 4 to 7 at the Urland Church.
