2/21/2013 9:33:00 PM Jazz team happy with 8th at state
With a team of young, inexperienced dancers, the Cannon Falls Bomber Jazz Dance Team was thrilled to simply be included in the State line-up.
"We went to state jazz really excited. The girls were more than anything just happy to be there," Head Coach Madi Salisbury explained. "Jazz was very challenging this year. We had difficult music and a very young team. They went out there and had a blast and did the best they could and we were so proud."
Despite a strong Prelims performance and their highest Jazz scores all season, the team did not advance to Finals, but with all things considered, the team was happy with what they'd accomplished. Salisbury elaborated, "Two weeks before HVL conference we almost made the executive decision to not compete Jazz this year. After much debate we decided to just do it and not have any pressure. I am so glad we stuck it out."
After knowing the routine for only a month, the BDT still made it to the Target Center floor by placing 3rd in their Section behind Zumbrota-Mazeppa and St. Charles. "We improved every week including the week leading up to State," Senior Captain Brekkan Winchell explained. Salisbury agreed, "We ended up in 8th place and beat out St. Charles who took 2nd place at Sections over us." Zumbrota-Mazeppa finished the tournament with 3rd place medals. "We were so excited for them!" Salisbury exclaims.
"We were completely satisfied with what we accomplished this year in Jazz," Senior Captain Emilee Lorentz stated. "We knew we did our best and were ready to focus on kick." Salisbury concurred, "The second after the Finalists for jazz were announced, our focus took a 180. The girls were actually kicking in the shoot and chanting, 'Kick.Kick.Kick.' All of us coaches looked at each other and smiled because we were thinking the exact same thing."
