Deputy Dan Breuer of Cannon Falls was recently named the Goodhue County Sheriff's Office Employee of the Year.
"Taking a look at Dan Breuer's accomplishments over his career you will find he is not the top ticket writer, but you will find a person who is humble and someone who quietly serves the citizens of Goodhue County in a highly professional capacity as a deputy sheriff," wrote Captain Pat Thompson in nominating Breuer.
"Dan is a deputy sheriff who cares greatly about the people he serves as well as the image of the sheriff's office," said Thompson.
Breuer goes the extra mile, according to Thompson. As an example, Thompson notes a case from September, 2012. Breuer responded to a complaint of an elderly vulnerable adult who noticed unusual activity on her credit card. Breuer was able to identify a suspect, convince the suspect to drive from the metro area to meet him for an interview and obtained a full admission.
Breuer was also instrumental in the arrest and conviction of a subject who was a multi-state offender, said Thompson. This individual was meeting women on the internet and after meeting them he took advantage of them by stealing credit card information and in some cases their identities. This individual had also conned another victim to help him purchase a vehicle in Billings, MT. This vehicle would later be reported stolen. He discovered the stolen pick-up and arrested the suspect.
"Dan could have easily chalked up the arrest on the stolen vehicle, booked the subject and headed back out on patrol," said Thompson Instead, Breuer took the time to interview the suspect who confessed to numerous thefts in Iowa, Goodhue County and also to the theft of the vehicle in Montana.
Thompson says Breuer has been very active in tracking registered offenders in Goodhue County. Breuer works closely with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, county attorney, an investigator and records support staff to assist him in this effort. "I do not want to minimize the others who are involved in this process, but Dan is the primary person who physically meets with these individuals, and verifies this information," said Thompson. Because of those efforts in this area, when audited by the BCA, Goodhue County does not have an offender out of compliance. "This is a great accomplishment, because Goodhue County is one of the few counties who can brag about this accomplishment," noted Thompson.
"Dan gets results whether he is enforcing traffic laws or taking complaints," said Thompson. "The results are always positive and because of his extra efforts they place a positive light on this office. His efforts in everything he does go further than a deputy just doing a job."
Breuer grew up in Welch, the son of Delbert and Rose Breuer. He graduated from Red Wing High School in 1989. He is married to Danelle (Gerlach) Breuer, originally from near Miesville. They live in Cannon Falls and have two children in the Cannon Falls School District. Matt is a freshman and Abby is in third grade.
Breuer is active at St. Pius V Church and volunteers time to local Scouts and schools.
