Many free events at Cannon Valley Fair

Many free events are available at the 2012 Cannon Valley Fair:

• Sat., June 30 - Ms. Jaz-ee the clown, noon-4 p.m.; BBQ cook-off, 1-6 p.m.; minnow races, 1-4 p.m.; and a butterfly exhibit, 2-6 p.m.

• Sun., July 1 - Butterfly exhibit, 1-9 p.m., Half Pint Magic Show, 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.; and the RAD Zoo amphibian and reptile show, 2-5 p.m.

• Mon., July 2 - Daycare kid pedal tractor pull, 10 a.m.-noon; Goodhue County commissioners meeting, 10 a.m.; Cannon Falls fire department and ambulance on grounds, 10-11 a.m.; kid power pedal tractor pull, 1 p.m.; Jaz-ee the Clown, noon-4 p.m.; butterfly exhibit, 1-9 p.m.; RAD Zoo, 1-4 p.m.; and the Cannon Falls community band, 6-7 p.m.

• Tues., July 3 - Butterfly exhibit, 1-9 p.m.; Ray Sands Band, 1-2 p.m and 3-4 p.m.; and 4-H demonstrations, 4-6 p.m.

• Wed., July 4 - Minnow races, 1-4 p.m.; Lyndon Peterson, one-man band, 2-5 p.m.; and butterfly exhibit, 4-8 p.m.

Open class and 4-H exhibit entries will be taken Friday, June 29, from noon to 8 p.m.

Crescent City Amusements will open on the midway at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 29. Wristband days for unlimited rides will be Sunday, July 1 and Wednesday, July 4, from 1-5 p.m.

A large parade is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on July 4 in downtown Cannon Falls. Exhibits will be on display throughout the fair in exhibit buildings. A fireworks display will be held at dusk on July 4.

Information on entering exhibits can be found in handbooks available at area banks and farm businesses in the area. A schedule of fair events and entry information can also be found at www.cannonvalleyfair.org.

Two car and pickup demolition derbies, autocross, a truck and tractor pull, and the local band Lost Highway highlight grandstand events at the fair.

The autocross and truck/tractor pull are new events. The autocross will be held Saturday, June 30 at 7 p.m., and the NTPA truck/tractor pull will be Monday, July 2, at 7 p.m.

Car and truck demo derbies are slated for Sunday, July 1 and Tuesday, July 3, both at 5 p.m. The band Lost Highway will entertain at the grandstand after the Tuesday night derby, for an additional cost of $10.

Harness racing has been a tradition on July 4 at the fair for years. At least 50 horses are expected for the race card. The event will be held in front of the grandstand, starting at 2 p.m.

There is a cost to attend the grandstand events ($12 for adults, $5 for children 12-under; the harness races are $10).
