The Cannon Falls Education Foundation is a volunteer, non-profit group that funds teacher requests in the Cannon Falls schools for creative and innovative programs and equipment that are above and beyond the school budget.
Over the years, the Foundation has funded about 525 requests for a total of over $800,000. The Foundation dedicates two thirds of money raised to an endowment with the aim of maintaining a self-supporting level of base funding.
This year, the Foundation board has budgeted to fund $70,000 in programs. Already $48,000 has been contributed toward the following:
Laptop computers for use by special education teachers at the elementary ($3,169).
Listening centers at the elementary ($823).
"A Christmas Carol" field trip for the 7th grade. ($1,450).
"Vertical Endeavors" field trip for 3rd grade ($1,110).
A phonics program for preschool, K, 1st and 2nd grade ($960).
The Housing Initiative construction class run by Mr. Wolter ($9,998).
A teacher intern/exchange program for Spanish ($1,900).
"Diary of Anne Frank" field trip for eighth grade ($1,246).
The Eagle Bluff trip for 4th grade ($2,500).
ACDA Honor Choir trip for 7th and 8th grade ($632).
Initial costs for robotics competition and class at the high school ($6,500).
Middle school study island
Yamaha clavinova piano for band and choir ($5,000).
Mass media class DVD ($103).
"We the People" AP Government Washington D.C. trip ($2,500 to $5,000).
New auditorium speakers and equipment ($5,200).
Fur trade presentation for 6th grade ($400).
Cannon Falls Lantern ($500).
Trip to BPA national conference ($1,015).
Current Foundation officers are Vicki Fales, President; Terri Evans, Vice President; Mary Reinhardt, Treasurer; Donna Wegmann, Secretary; Laura Qualey, PR chair; Mike Lecy, Programs chair.
Other board members are Jennifer Allen, Missy Banks, Colleen Charnell, Mary Dalton, Geri Geiken, Chris Hall, Taresa Hamann, Steve Jacobsen, Jenny Jandro, Deb Kadrlik, Donna Kimmes, Julie Miland, Jane Peterson, Rollin Reber, Sam Robinson, Gwen Rose, Lynee Schaefer and Pam Wulf. Beth Giese and Pat Dougherty represent the district and the school board.
