Bullriding, combine and car demos highlight fair
Two car demolition derbies, a combine demo derby, bullriding and truck and tractor pull highlight events at the 94th Annual Cannon Valley Fair in Cannon Falls, July 1-5.

Car and pickup demolition derbies are set for Wednesday, July 1 and Friday, July 3, at 7 p.m. Imperial and compact car heats are also planned. More entries are still being taken. Nearly $27,000 in prize money is offered this year.

A crowd-pleasing event, a combine demolition derby, will be held Thursday, July 2, at 7 p.m. Farm combines 1980 and older are eligible. Several heats are planned, with the last combine running winning the $1,500 top prize. As a plus, a team pickup demo derby will be held prior to the championship of the combine derby.

Extreme bullriding, with professional riders, will be held Saturday, July 4, at 7 p.m. A full slate of 40 riders is expected. Youngsters will get a chance to ride sheep in the Mutton Bustin' event.

A new event, the Central Truck Pullers Truck and Tractor Pull will be held on Sunday, July 5, at 2 p.m. Several local drivers will compete.

Harness horse racing has been a tradition on July 4 at the fair. At least 60 entries are expected for the race card this year. The event starts at 1 p.m.

Many free events are offered this year, including:

Saturday, June 27 - horse show, 8 a.m.

Wednesday, July 1 - Battle of the Bands 3 p.m.; 4-H demonstrations 4-7 p.m. and FFA tug of war, 4 p.m.

Thursday, July 2 - day care day, 9 a.m. to noon; Carpenter Nature Center demonstration, noon and 2 p.m.

Friday, July 3 - Kid Power Pedal Tractor Pull, 10 a.m.; dog trials demonstrations, 2 and 4 p.m.; Conbrio band at 8 p.m.

Saturday, July 4 - parade at 11:30 a.m.; dog trials at 2 and 4 p.m.; fireworks at dusk

Sunday, July 5 - Ranch Rodeo, 10 a.m.; BBQ cookoff 12 noon to 4 p.m.

Open class and 4-H entries will be taken on one day only, Tuesday, June 30 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for open class and 1-7 p.m. for 4-H. The District 6 Holstein Show will be held at noon on July 1, and the Ayrshire State Show on July 3, at 9 a.m. The open class sheep show will be at 10 a.m. on July 5.

Crescent City Amusements will open on the midway at 1 p.m. July 1. Wrist band days for unlimited rides for kids will be 1 to 5 p.m. on July 2, 6 to 10 p.m. on July 4 and noon to 4 on July 5.

A large parade is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on July 4, in downtown Cannon Falls. Exhibits will be on display throughout the fair, in exhibit buildings. A fireworks display will be held at dusk on July 4.
