2008 Cannon Valley Fair Combine Demolition Derby Rules

Cut off/Registration All combines and drivers must be registered by May 14, 2008. There is a $100 registration fee refunded in
cash when you show up (for combine, driver and 4 pit crew). There will be a mandatory pit meeting for all participants at 6:30 p.m. A
parade of combines and final judging will take place and the derby will begin at 7 p.m.

Derby The derby will consist of heats based on the number of entries and a final heat.

Competition Each heat will be 15-20 minutes long. In some cases, the judges may announce a tie between two or more combines.
Judges will have sole determination on which combines are eligible for championship.

Drivers A driver's meeting 1/2 hour prior to the event held at the facility before the activities begin. At this time, machines are
inspected by the judges and heat numbers are drawn.

Pit Area/Pit Crews (New change) - Arm/wrist bands will be required by anyone in the pit area. No one under the age of 16 in the
pit area. Additional pit passes are $20 each and will only be sold the day of the event at the pit gate. Everyone entering the pits must
have a pit pass and sign a waiver.

Combine Reinforcement Reinforcing iron (no spring steel) is limited to 10 pieces, any length, located anywhere on the combine
except in restricted areas. Iron replacement can be any iron - angle, channel or flat, and is limited to a maximum gauge
of 3"x2"x1/4". Iron spears or external iron used for aggressive action is prohibited. No extra welding on the cutter bar edge,
No welding rock guards, and header bottom, and No concrete in the platform auger. No well casing can be used as a stiffener.
Rub bars may be placed around the radiator or variable speed drives, but not the rear axle parts. If a combine has suffered
a broken piece (i.e. a tie-rod or axle), it can be repaired with iron to support the break. This added iron does not fall into the
10-piece limit, as long as the reinforcement is the same width as the broken piece. Only two braces are allowed: one on each side
of the header inside the front wheel. (Does not include bracing to keep headers at the required 16-18" height.) Any number of
iron pieces can be used for hydraulic stops for safety or any driver protection supports. Straw Walker Housing will be allowed
some reinforcement for strength only. Maximum Header width is 18'. Unload auger must be removed. Skid plate pieces don't
count. No cutting edges.

All glass and lights must be removed. Grain platforms or corn head (4-row minimun). All reels, cutting edge parts and snouts must be
removed. Seat belts required.

All combines must be a 1980 or earlier model. Must be removed that night or the very next day!
A protective cage must be built to protect driver, possibly several bars in the front and the side of the driver.
All batteries must be secured in a box for protection from debris.
Fuel tanks must be secured in grain tank with caps that do not allow spillage of fuel, should the combine tip over. (Vent could be used
for "breather.")
Water only in radiators.

Inspection/Judging Judges will inspect combines before the derby begins, and they are the final decision makers for any
infractions during the derby. Pushing or pulling another combine outside of the barrier limits, and high speed ramming, for
example, may warrant disqualification. Two or more combines locked together must attempt to separate within a three minute
time limit or risk disqualification. A warning will precede disqualification. If you lose your header, you are disqualified from
that heat. (Feeder spout is not a part of the header.)

Calcium Chloride Calcium chloride must be removed from the machine's tires since it is considered an environmental hazard.

Repairs Repairs to machines may commence at any time after the machine has been removed from the arena between heats or during
intermission. If a machine suffers engine failure not caused by competition contact, either approaching the event or during the
event, it may return, if repaired, in a later heat before the final heat.

Conduct Anyone who is acting in a way in which is seen as inappropriate by an official, or fair director will be asked to leave.
Drivers are responsible for their pit crews.

Alcohol There are to be no alcoholic beverages consumed in the pits.

Decoration Combines competing for the best decorations will be in the arena for display prior to the derby. Impartial judges will
determine the best decorated combine. All combines will be paraded, however, before the crowd.
